FREE Cultural Awareness Training
At past ELCA youth events, there have been many instances of harm done toward American Indian/Alaska Native, Latino, African Descent, Arab & Middle Eastern, and Asian & Pacific Islander youth and adults. It often appears that European Descent youth leaders have not been equipped to recognize or disrupt the harm. The MYJ Cultural Awareness Team was created to help leaders do better and to help everyone have better experiences.
The MYJ Cultural Awareness team is hosting a FREE training via Zoom that all European Descent leaders, pastors, and volunteers can participate in. Everyone is welcome to attend – however, the training will be focused on developing European descent leaders.
Objectives of the training:
+ Increase awareness of the effects of showing up in a white body
+ Ground interrupting racist words and actions in Faith.
+ Provide space to talk about cultural awareness.
+ Help people to recognize and respond to instances of racism in the church.
+ Equipped and empowered people to recognize and disrupt whiteness as the default in the church.
